Zachary Frankel is a Melbourne-based designer whose multidisciplinary practice encompasses furniture, lighting, sculpture, and objects. Originally trained as a jeweller, Frankel transitioned into furniture design after being inspired by the elegance of a simple chair, which ignited his curiosity in working with timber. Since then, he has spent years honing his craft, working with various materials including timber, bronze, aluminium, recycled plastic, stone, and fabric.
About

Frankel's design process is characterized by an open exploration of form and material across a variety of mediums and styles. He works collaboratively across disciplines and materials, moving away from the formal constraints of design to create intuitive and experimental works. This approach allows him to create pieces that are not bound by market trends but are instead driven by personal curiosity and a desire to explore new techniques and materials.
His work often draws inspiration from historical styles, reinterpreting them through a contemporary lens. Whether crafting by hand or employing modern technology, Frankel believes in the value of all tools and techniques, seeing each as an opportunity to push the boundaries of design. This philosophy results in pieces that blur the lines between functional design and sculptural art, offering a unique perspective in the design landscape.
